METHODS FOR REMOVING GUM FROM CONCRETE

The best methods for removing gum from concrete depends on the gum’s age and the level of penetration into the concrete surface. If the gum was left recently and it has not penetrated the surface, we might be able to get it off by covering it with ice until the gum freezes, then scraping the gum off with a putty knife.

The ice forces the gum to freeze into a workable consistency compared to a gooey and stringy mess. Once that happens, we slide a metal putty knife or scraper directly under the gum residue. Next we move the scraper slowly under the gum and the whole piece should peel right off the concrete.

The above method is only possible with gum that is brand new.

When we remove chewing gum that has turned black, or is smashed down into the concrete surface, we use a hot water power washer with the heat dialed up to 200 Degrees to melt the chewing gum. For this type of gum removal service, we will not use very high pressure because that will sometimes ruin the surface of the concrete!
